Gray Ridge Eggs wins Canadian Grocer Impact Award 2024 for Sustainability
Taking local action for the greater good™
Gray Ridge Egg Farms is proud to announce that we’ve received the “Canadian Grocer Impact Award 2024” for sustainability. This recognition strengthens our commitment to reducing our environmental footprint, and our solar energy initiative is a key part of that mission.
At the end of 2023, we began installing solar panels on our grading stations and producer farms. These panels have the potential to produce 2,000 kilowatts (kWdc) of energy, enough to power 50 to 65 households daily.
The impact will be significant. Some of our producer farms anticipate achieving 100% solar-powered barns, while we anticipate seeing up to 13% reduction in energy use at our Listowel grading station and up to 26% at our Strathroy grading station.
By using solar power, we gain access to a clean and renewable source of energy. Solar power emits no greenhouse gas or pollutants associated with fossil fuels, significantly reducing our carbon footprint. We hope that this initiative will help set a new standard for environmental sustainability within the grocery industry.
We believe the future is in sustainable business practices. Winning this award is a moment of pride for us and our team, who worked hard to make this happen and to take a significant step towards a more sustainable future.
